    Reel Seat Question

    Also posted in rods&reels forum:

I have a newer 7'0" Fenwick HMG and really like the rod. Changed reels the other day and now I can the seat to tighten down. It will only get so tight, then like click and loosen off. Any fixes for this? I was thinking about wrapping the threads in some plumbers tape, but that may be stupid. interested in ya'lls thoughts...

    Re: Reel Seat Question (CanepoleSC31)

The theads are stripped on the hood most likely. No real fix unless you replace the reel seat. That unfortunately is a little expensive for the cost of the seat. You may be able to wrap some electrical tape around the threads and see if it helps. It probably will only need one round and make it tight.

    Re: Reel Seat Question (CanepoleSC31)

If that won't work for you the last resort would be to tape the foot itself with elec. tape to the seat. At least you'll be able to use it. I have taken many seats off from the rear of the rod but its a touchy job to say the least.

    Good Luck Ron.

    Re: Reel Seat Question (CanepoleSC31)

Put something in the reel seat to shim your reel forward. Take a small folded piece of paper, put it on the hole of the reel seat where the rear reel foot goes. Now put on your reel. this will force yoiur reel to sit a little more forward and might not allow the threads to tighten down so far.
This has to be done with certain reels that have too small of a reel seat also.

    Re: Reel Seat Question (CanepoleSC31)

I appreciate the tips guys - and i tried each of them. Reel just will not tighten down. Gets to a certain point then just clicks off and want seat correctly. Very frustrating. Doesn't seem like something so simple so be so difficult to fix and be the ruin of an otherwise good rod. Not the first problem I have Fenwick seats though. Like the rods, and like the actions, but good gosh.

I have some spare rods for the reel and feel like any of those would be a better choice than taping the reel on. My luck, I would actually hook a fish and the reel would fall off.

Thanks again for the tips - I appreciate them all. wish they would have worked.
