    Lake of the Ozarks

Just looking for a pulse on the lake right now. Wondering how the bite has been and what the water temps are right now. I had asked some questions regarding the lake a month or so ago and all of you guys were very helpful. Again just digging for some info as some buddies and myself are taking an early March trip in hopes of shakin the cabin fever. Any info again is much appreciated!

Re: Lake of the Ozarks (basscat tyler)

I haven't been fishing because of surgury but have had numerous guys talk to me about the bite. With the mild winter, the bite has been exceptional. Many large bass taken and you need need 20 lbs. just to place. Sometimes, 25 lbs. or better to win. Most are using jerkbaits or jigs. One old timer has been winnig a lot of cash using only a Shad Rap. This cold period will stop the bite for awhile. That is a good thing as you don't want the females to start a false spawn because of the weather. Water temps before the cold were in the mid to high 40's depending on the time of day and the area of the lake. Normally, the Gravois arm warms up first. I'm sure more folks will be along with info.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks (LOZman)

I cannot comment on the last 7 days or so, and have not been down myself, but just previous the lake was producing the biggest 5-fish bags I have ever seen.....doesn't mean its easy...just a high ratio of 4-7 lb. bites.

I got texts whille driving in from out of town last Thursday the 2nd from my buddy as he compiled his best 5 day ever...26 3/4lbs. And it was jerkbaits, not A-Rig.

Like Steve I didn't go last week planning on going next weekend. Before this cold snap water was in the 41 to 45 degree range which for this time of year is several degree's warmer than normal. Also we haven't seen any freezing in coves, maybe after this weekend.

Word is that the big sticks are catching huge sacks, 30lbs on 5 during the week have been reported by several of the top contenders.

There will be good fishing down there from now right up to Memorial Day. If you're going, early is better though. You'll enjoy the lake a lot more if the "Tuna" boats aren't out. They can really screw up a nice day in April or May.
