    ETEC starting problem

I have a 2006 150 HO that has an intermittent starting problem. It only happens when I try to crank the engine, but release the key before it actually starts. It will start right up after it sits for 10 minutes or so. Yesterday it happened and I tried to start it without letting it sit. The engine would turn over but it would never start. I left it alone for a little while and it fired right up. Any ideas what could be causing this? Here are the model and serial numbers: E105DHLSUF 05156279

    Re: ETEC starting problem (EDUBYA)

It sounds as if the pinion gear may not be releasing from the flywheel some of the time. If it does not release then the starter does not build up enough rpm's to start the engine the next time you try. Sometimes you can tell the cranking speed is not high enough. When it first starts happening it will eventually drop. Clean it with WD40 then add light weight oil, reel oil will work well.
