I'm new to bass fishing and have had some good success with crankbaits and am starting to figure them out pretty good but some days I can't catch a fish to save my life and would to work on these two tecniques for 2011 so i have something else to go to. I've never thrown a shakey head and have very little success with using t-rigged soft plastics. I've also thrown jigs but all i've ever caught on a jig was a carp. I don't ever seem to get any kind of bites when throwing a jig, and I know my setup is pretty sensitive cause i've felt and watch bluegill nip at the skirt of my jig and I could feel every little peck.
My setup I plan to use for the shakey head is a American Rodsmith titanium spinning rod 6'9" Med/heavy with a Diawa 4.7:1 spinning reel 10lb floro.
Jig setup: American Rodsmith Limit stix 6'10" w/ Abu Revo STX 7.1:1 with 12lb floro.
What seems to be the most productive season, water temp, clarity, windy or calm conditions to be throwing a worm on a shakey head?
And the same for Jigs?
The lakes I fish are man made flood control lakes (Ft. Gibson and Tenkiller) Both lakes have no vegetation with mostly rocky to mud/sand bottoms. Gibson is a fairly shallow lake,i'm told you rarely have to fish deeper 12-15ft and it is pretty stained most of the time with visibility being 6" to 1' most of the time, right now they've been keeping it about 2' below normal so its the clearest i've ever seen it and vis. is about 2-3 ft.
Tenkiller is much clearer lake and is deeper, at times visibility is 10'-15' where i'd say the norm is usually around 8'-10'. It has big chunk rock banks, cliffs that drop anywhere from 20-80ft of water.
I would appreciate any help you guys can offer and if there is something i'm missing let me know.![]()
