    River Fishing

Im fishing my first ever river this week. There is a large cove where you launch, and a small channel that takes you out to the river. Looking at a map, it seems there is only one brach off the river up stream. The other end of the river is a damn. Having never fished a river before, is there anything different I should do vs. lake/pond fishing?

I fish the rivers around my area. The only thing is look for dead heads floating or logs. As far as fishing what you looking to catch?

The water surface temp around my area is 70-74deg. I have been getting alot of smallmouth around 16-20 feet dragging a worm rig on the bottom. Casting along the shore with floating raps works also.

Eddies are hard to beat while river fishing, if they are pulling current. Down here the fish will get behind current breaks as ambush zones.

look for eddies they are definately a great place to start. But around me (upper potomac) huge boulders are nice because they create the eddy but also after years of current a hole gets formed just behind the boulder (down current side) and ive found several bass can hang there and up river/diagonal up river casts really produce
