Been goofing off and found a few more ways to fish the Live magic Shad. I'm sure I am not the first to do this but here are a few ways that have worked lately.
This is the 4.5" LMS that has had the standarad tail replaced by one from a hollow belly swimbait. I used Mend It glue and seems to work just fine. Gives it a bit more thump.
This is a 3/5" LMS on a standard swim jig as a trailer. Again just a little more thump but also makes the bait a little more buoyant which helps if you are fishing on top of grass or for suspended fish.
Last but not least is something I did Saturday at Fork to help get a few more bed fish to hit. A lot were spooky or did not show interest but seems a few liked this setup. I took a 3.5" LMS and used a 5/0 super line hook being careful to put it in the second segment towards the tail. You want a slight bend in the bait too cause this will make it stay nose down and will roll the bait when gently twitched. Basically looks like a shad/perch rooting around and seemed to really be best right on the sweet spot of the bed. I'm sure you can insert some weight in the nose if needed but this setup worked best. Make sure to lightly skin hook it so you can get good penetration on the hookset.
