    Swimming jigs

I was recently fishing at a lake where bass was busting on bait in grass. I figured swimming a jig through the grass would have gotten me some bites. then I remembered I don't know how to use the technique.
So, the question is, how do you fish a swimming jig???

I cast it and reel it in, usually yoyoing it back to the boat or just a straight retrieve. I like to have a trailer on it that has some pretty good action, like one of the zoom baits that have the speed tails..

    Re: Swimming jigs (phil*va)

I like within 15miles of the famous Tom Monsoor and EVERYONE up here fishes Swim Jigs or "Swimming Jigs" as they are called in Wisconsin.

Throw it on braid (I use Spider Wire Camo) on 7' 6" Kistler Rod made for Top Water. I also use a Revo SX on the rear - Most use the "Winch" on Swimming Jigs.

Long Casts with a good trailer and the RIGHT JIG. We all throw Leathal Weapons or Yank'um Jigs up here. Yank'um has a new head design that is lead and plastic molded together for a big head (to stay above the weeks) but lighter size to fall slower... dy-no-mite. It also has a monster hook on the back with a wire keeper.

The key is to try new diameter lines to get the right combo for the weight of the jig - I cant even start to explain. Also, swim it... dont just dead stick it. Rod goes from 9 to 11 o'clock... slower on some days, faster on others.

Good luck! Remember, line... and jig are KEY!

I fish them a little different,I use them more like a rattle trap, just tick the top of the grass with it then when it gets hung rip it and hold on,
I use a jig made here It has a very pointed nose to come threw the weeds a must

I had been wanting a clear swim jig for use in clear/ultra clear water for a long time. The fish can see something but can't tell what it is and draws their attention.
Joey Watts started making this jig for me and now includes it in his catalog at Flatlands Custom Lures. I am fishing it with a Kalen's clear holographic 5 in. grub.

    Re: Swimming jigs (LOZman)

slow rolling like a spinner bait around cover has produced the best for me. Also ripping through weeds is also very productive (arrow head, a must). Also found that throwing out and yo-yo ing real slow has been good around where i'm fishing. 15-20 ft outside edge of weedlines, and all around shallow cover. Hold on, because the fall swimjig bite is about to get crazy...!

I throw LockJaw swim jigs. Frank is stand-up guy with quality jigs at great price, i wont throw anything else anymore.

    Re: Swimming jigs (flyforfish21)

I slow roll it, have even been know to put a small spinner blade as the trailer or rip it like a trap out of the grass, or use one just heavy enough to constantly tick the bottom, but keep it moving at a decent speed
