    Line for crankbait fishing

I've been experimenting with different lines for throwing shallow to deep diving cranks and was just wondering what kinds y'all boys throw? I've tried mono, fluorocarbon, and braid. I've gone from using low diameter braid back to mono and can't feel very good. Plus, I've had lots of fish shake off the last 2 days with the mono. A local guide told me I was crazy throwing braid. Just wanting some input.

Has anyone tried the Sufix deep Cranking line? Says it sinks, but it is not Fluoro. Just bought a spool. Too early to tell, but it casts great the first trip.

I use the 10# Izorline XXX. I tried the floro and gave it a good test run. Didn't like it because I broke off a few fish/. Tied the knots right but still not satisfied. Whent back to the Izoro. It is very abrasion resistant, allow vis green, and fishes great. If ya know anything about lake martin, ay know how clear the water is. I catch as many fish as those using the floro. Izor is all I use know.
Braid just floats to high in the water for crankbaiting.

Nothing but braid for me. Just use a rod with a softer tip and don't try to horse them back to the boat. Watch your rod tip and use it to keep pressure on the fish.

Great cranking line, it's got good stretch and the floro coating helps hide the line. I did change to 100% pLine floro 10lb mainly because I like it and my rod is very soft so the decrease in line stretch doesnt bother me now. Either one will work for you though.

Re: Line for crankbait fishing (Jason20X)

Most of my crankbaiting has been on spinning gear bandit 100,200 and DT4&6's with 10lb yozuri hybrid but I've been messing around with 20lb fireline on a 7ft med action ugly stick and a diawa spinning reel throwing DT10& DT16's. Its one of my catfish setups i use for drifting. With the longer cast i feel that my bait is spending more time at it's depth zone, covering more water

I'm fishing a BFL this weekend, with crankin on my mind... I got a deep divin rod with 10# triple fish floro and another rod with 20# braid for shallower stuff...
may rig up another rod tonight with 12# mono if I get drunk enough...

Every person I know that cranks and everytime I've ever heard someone talk about cranking it always comes up with the same answer = flurocarbon

Re: Line for crankbait fishing (dondon123)

When you ask a question that starts: "what line for..." you are gonna get tons od answers...
I agree floro is real good but at times casting it can be a pain... great feel of your bait but I've been out on a few windy days when I wished I hadn't spooled it up... has its place...
braid is real nice but can be trouble in clear water...
that leaves mono... those all mentioned here are good... I got a big spool of Flouraclear and will use that till its gone...
I'll throw this one out there if you care... was at a big Alabama crankin event in 96... records fell... all to deep crankbaits... the chit chat was guys were using 8,10# XT... and 10# big game...
Got too drunk last night, gotta spool up this AM before work...

Re: Line for crankbait fishing (Jason20X)

I was about to make a post about this until I saw yours. I've tried it all and my thought is braid is to sensitive I seem to jerk it away from them and they don't get the bait and that surge at the boat will break your heart. Flurocarbon is great if your a pro and someone gives it to you. I bought a 2000 yeard spool in Feb and I'm out already. It seems that the stress from crankbaits or traps rippin lose makes the line brittle and you have to switch it out alot. If you have the money thats the way to go. If you look at Fritts, Coble, or Wright they all say 10 lb stren or sufix. Thats all I need to know. Also a lot of the older crankbait locals on Guntersville all say mono so I believe I'm going back in time and go old school because braid and fluro ain't for me. I think I'm going to the Sufix Deep Crankin Line. Its mono that acts like fluro.

It was Stren sensor that Fritts throws isnt it ?

Re: Line for crankbait fishing (ploppin4bass)

the line you chose really depends on what style fishing you have I.E. power or finesse, the stiffness of your rod, and the depth at wich youd like to achieve.
1- If your a fineese fisher then you could probably go with a flouro carbon sense its really not in you to horse a fish to the boat.
2- If your using a stouter rod then you probably wouldnt want to use flourocarbon, due to hooks being pulled.
3- if you need an xtra 2-3 feet outta a crankbait and your rod suits it then your best bet would be Flourocarbon.
For me personally i choose copolymer for my cranks down to 10 or so feet and flouro for anything deeper.

ALSO THERE IS ALOT MORE THAT WILL ALSO AFFECT LINE SELECTION BUT YOU'D HAVE TO KNOW ME FOR ME TO TELL YOU ALL THAT.
