I started using stanley ribbit frogs and love them but I have trouble getting them to stay upright. The package said to use the enclosed bead but my pack did not have a bead in it.so I just tied the line to the hook with a palomar knot. Any ideas?

I use a 4/0 or 5/0 Owner hook with a screw lock. The larger hook will help keep the frog right side up. Also let it set just a second before you start reeling, it will flip to the hook side down. In matted grass it is going to swim hook up.

Yea Ive used the same hooks and Ive also used the Tru Tung Hackney Double frog hook as it seems to have more weight to it and keep the frog from rolling. It takes some skills though to double hook your bait.

When Reaction lures made the Ribbit before Dean sold the pattern to Stanley, there was a bead in every package. I don't remember seeing a bead in the Stanley ones I have bought. Not saying they are not in some of them, I just don't remember seeing them. I used the bead when they came and didn't have a problem with the frog rolling, but don't really have a problem without it either.
It swims the same either way so I don't really see the problem. All my hook ups have been fine and I don't feel that I loose fish due to the hook facing up or down.

The bead is in there to go on the line in front of the hook... it is to break the waters surface tension and make the frog run on the surface better... they usually end up in my carolina rig box...
I use the Owner twist lock hook, 4/0- 6/0... they still roll around... great hook for frogs though...

mine roll over some to but i have had them hit it like that to though
the bead helps junk from collecting on the nose of the frog.i rig mine w/ a slight bow in the belly which causes the nose to ride hi.this helps some but it also causes it to right itself faster.
personally i dont find it to be a problem but you can use a weighted hook and that will help alot.
you,ll have better hook ups if the hook is pointing up,so right yoiur frog before reeling.

DING DING DING gatorboy52 gets the prize. The bead is to prevent crud like snot moss (algae) from fouling up your bait and pushing the frog back off the hook when you run it through grass and weeds and stuff.
I usually fish the Bull Ribbit or the Lake Fork Frog... I like both. I use a 5/0 or 6/0 Falcon Superline hook with either 1/16th or 3/32nd weight. This will not only keep your frog running upright but if you get a missed strike just drop your rod and let the frog sink for a second chance. With the weighted hook the frog will dive nose first like it's trying to dive to escape.

Don't worry Ma'am....
I'm only here for the Bass.
I use a 3/0-4/0 BMF straight shank hook with a 32nd.oz.screw in wieght.65# braid the straight shank really helps with hook up ratio.IMO
A slight downward bow in the back is the answer. Another really good hook choice for these type of frogs is the Mr. Blitz Toad Toter.

So will the bead help a spro frog from collecting alge when fished in the moss? Just a thought.
Best hook setup I've found for ribbets is the mustad ultra-point weighted hookThe weight slides on the hook to move the weight forward or back. With the weight at the hook bend - it pops on top of the water quicker and glides down if you kill your retrieve.
