Can anybody share some techniques for catching Yellow Perch? Depth, structure, bait, maybe even the best times for this time of year. I am new to cold water fishing, I know they are all around, but I can't find them.![]()

we always got them fishing cribs or brush piles, either a jighead or a plain hook and splitshot, tipped w/ a crawler or worm, both fished on the bottom or under a slip bobber, minnows rigged the same way gets them too and if there's crappies around they will hit the minnows too.![]()
my favorite way to catch them is on jerkbaits in the fall when the water starts cooling... hit some outside weedlines with a pointer 78 or husky jerk... this is my best way to get those "jumbos" hang on to your rod, a 14" perch will try taking it out of your hands... Don't be afraid to give it a long pause... A drop shot rig with a 3" reaper or minnow will get them too in the same areas...
I'm about 3 weeks away from perch season here in ny...
Yellow perch are a finicky fish... you'll see them in the water and they won't bite anything...
