One of my favorite baits this time of year is a 4 inch plastic worm on a 1/0 hook with a 1/16 oz worm weight fishing it texas rigged on 6lb test mono on a ML spinning rig. I've caught many bass in the 5-6 lb range. The problem is that at least once a trip I end up setting the hook on something really big and snap the line. Last year I was using a 2 pc spinning rod and it happenned and the top half of the rod flew off into the water behind me about 30 yards. The person in the back of the boat got a kick out of it.
I am wondering if I could go to a 12 lb or 15 lb test braid to keep this from happenning. I could also go up to an 8lb flouro and keep the same diameter as a 6lb mono. Which is the better solution or is there another? I don't want to affect the action of the bait so I feel like I need a thin diameter line which is why I don't just use 10 or 12 lb mono.
