Wouldn't throw a blades bait without a trailer hook, lost lots of money before I figured that one out.![]()
Depends on cover, if it all possible yes. My catch rate really went up when I fiqured out to use one, especially at night.
yep when possible!never tried one hook down,I always thought it was best to have them up so that the fish kinda hooks itself(with a little help from me)
I used to believe that it was sacreligious to throw a s'bait w/o a trailer hook. For the last ten years or so, I never have one on. I know I'm going against the grain, but I don't use them anymore.
B.A.S.S. seminar.. Jimmy Houston... you compete, you use t hook...

I'll use a trailer, and trailer hook 100% of the time.
I've never incountered a situation where a trailer was a negative.
Doesn't matter if I'm fishing hydrilla, stick-ups, cypress trees, or stumps.
I'll have a split tail trailer, and trailer hook on.
Any recommendations on a good trailer hook?

I prefer the Gammy 2/0 trailer hooks for 3/8 and 1/2oz blades. I rarely go any heavier than that but do bump up to a 3/0 if I do.

I've recently discovered the best way to rig a trailer hook. I use a short trailer (or shorten a regular trailer) then thread it onto the hook until the eye is covered by the soft plastic then I hook through the eye of the hook (which is though the plastic) and it will not only stay put but has good action since the trailer can turn left/right freely. This also disguises the trailer hook...
