    Pegging?????

I have some Tru-Tungsten weights that I've been flippn with. A tooth pick is too big and the rubber pegs will work but is time consuming, because they are also to big. What else can I do to peg these weights. Tru-Tungsten just come out with some new pegs, but I don't want to place a order just for the pegs.....

Ferris, you might try using some rubber strips from a jig or spinnerbait skirt. Sometimes one of two of those work. Just stick them through the hole and then pull the ends to stretch them out while you push the line through, then allow it to return to normal and trim edges. I have done that with rubberbands as well, but most skirts also work, at least with other types of weights.

Try a piece of small diameter mono. If you have a spool of something you don't like to fish with or some discount brand around it' dirt cheap and a small spool will last forever.

    Re: Pegging????? (11pounder)

I used to use tooth picks and rubber stoppers. On the episode of Classic Patterns where Marty Stone fishes flips thick grass at Shearon Harris Lake in NC he shows a better way. He uses bobber stoppers and allows his weight a little room to slide (about an inch). I tried this method and it seemed to increase hookups. I use a tiny crimp on bull shot sinker (like a split shot but bullet shaped) in place of a bobber stop, I got a sack (think 400 something pieces) from BPS for under 5 bucks that will last me a good long time.

I pass some 80# mono through the sinker however many passes it takes to fill the hole, then pull the loops down inside. That makes it really tight. Leave one 1/8" tag end between sinker and worm nose so you can yank the mono out and re-use that high dollar sinker. Very cheap and effective.

Regular old rubberband. Cut the rubber band, tie a double overhand knot on you line, pull it TIGHT, trim the edges. works great for a weight stopper and you can slide it up and down your line with out doing and damage.

I use a bobber stopper, off of a slip bobber. You can always set it back to non pegged, but just slid it up and it sticks. Also, you may have to go to a small red bead, but dont worry.... they come with the kits.

That's a good tip and it lets me used all of those skirts that have busted.

    Re: Pegging????? (borderbasser)

I started (briefly) with toothpicks, then went to T-stops/Peg-its. I like those pretty well, but now I'm loving the bobber/sinker stops. They work great. It might be hard to slide them on line larger than roughly 17-20# test though. The "sinker stops" from BPS are the same as the bobber stops, but they come 45 for the same price as 15 for bobber stops. I love these things so far. Finally, something that doesn't force the line up against the side of the weight where abrasions can occur. Bobber/sinker stops center the line in the weight. They are perfect.
