a question to all who have fished as a co-angler in a pro event

i entered the flw on the potamac, does that mean I am entered or is it a lottery with no guarantee until they start filling the field? Thanks for the help as this is my first time competing on this level. Oh, and any advise for the tournament would be much appreciated such as ettique, netting fish what not to do etc.

If you sign up for one event someone who signs up for all of them will get priority over you. I wouldnt worry about it you will probably get into it. Dont worry about ettique just fish and dont be an a-hole lol. Ide offer up some gas money and never cast infront of the boater. And ask him at the beggining of the day if he wants you to net his fish. Maybe youll get paired with me haha

I entered the FLW Tour Major at Potomac in May as a co. It will be a 1st for me as i always use my boat. Cory pretty much covered the bases.Travel light and be respectful.

Gas money is a good thing. Carry as much stuff that you want in you car and then at the meeting when they pair everyone up ask your boater how yall will be fishing and then select your rods and tackle that way. Personally I never care how much tackle or rods my co brings the only thing I ask is to be mindful of there spike-it. That stuff is a pain to get off once its spilled. I also ask that if they smoke to try not to burn any carpet! Good luck!

I did have a co bring a bag once that was so big it took up the entire floor. This was a problem because I couldnt get from the drivers seat to the front. Also he could not get around it to net my fish. When I go wht someone I can fit everything I bring in one plano 3700 box

Dont take an excessive amount of tackle. I try not to take anymore stuff than I can fit in an average rear storage compartment and 5-6 rods. If you know much about the potomac, you should be able to pack everything you need with room to spare after talking with your boater.

A few things I ask of my co-anglers-

-Dont leave a mess, keep your tackle stowed and leave your PFD on the seat, not in the middle of the floor.

-Dont stab the net for my fish until I say to.

-When I say I am ready to move in 2 minutes or after I fish to right there, be ready.

-If you got any issues with boat position ect, say something.

I personally never care how much tackle my co brings if he thinks he needs it I will find somewhere to put it all. Also don't worry about his stuff laying out everywhere as he will get fair warning when we are gonna make a move. I do however have a slight problem with a Co fishing in front of me and when there isnt even an offer for gas money at the end of the day. But for the most part you will find boater only expect you to be respectful of thier property and to use common sense. Just fish enjoy it and do the best you can.

I wouldn't listen to anything Corey Byrum says he is a complete idiot to fish with and he even tried to buy my fish one time.

At each FLW event there are a certain amount of slots blocked for locals so yes it is kind of a lottery but I'm sure you will get in. Be open to fish any fast or slow pattern, the good thing about fishing the Potomac is the patterns are dwindled down much more than a lake. Good Luck!

after entering the FLW TOUR event, FLW will send you a CONFIRMATION letter or a WAITING LIST letter. if you get the confirmation letter, you will fish.period. if you get a waiting list letter, you guess is as good an any..

remember its your vacation, his job. BE RESPECTFUL. treat him the way you would want to be treated if roles were reversed and all will be fine.

    good luck, have fun
