    SOMETHING TO PONDER !

If the lack of OXYGEN is killing fish, We may want to think about removing fish(if we find any) from to area we catch them, likely there is OXYGEN there and not any or enough where we release them ! Stress may be a factor in this case as well. As Fishermen,Sportsmen,(as well as LADIES),and Conservations we all want the Rivers to Recover as quickly as possible from what ever is killing our fish, Maybe think about trying other Rivers,Lakes, Ponds this may help give these Rivers a little help in the recover ! This is just something to THINK about ! And for a fast recover !

Im not sure I follow what youre saying but I believe your intentions are sincere. Are you saying we should remove the fish from the rivers and "re-stock" them elsewhere?

You can not do that move fish from one body of water to another. Moving them up or down the same river is OK but from a river to a pond is a no no....

No Rob, what Grizz is getting at is that if we can find a fish to bite, it may be because they are in an area where they have found adequate oxygen to survive. If we put them in a live well and later release them in another area of the river, we may well be releasing them where there is not sufficient oxygen and thereby killing the fish that may have otherwise survived.

As for taking a live fish from a public body of water and releasing it in another, that is not legal as Woody has already pointed out. Legally, we can only take fish from public waters for personal consumption.

VDGIF and NCWRC should have already placed a temporary restriction on fishing these waters, in my opinion.

I think he is saying if you are catching fish from a certain part of the river, that part of the river is doing ok and dont put them in the livewell to be released somewhere else like a weigh-in location that might be bad oxygen levels. So give the rivers a break and fish somewhere else for a bit. My interpretation

Taking it one step further, if I read Grizz correctly, I think he meant to take the tournaments (not the fish) to other areas like lakes and ponds...and leave the rivers alone....

If nobody is catching any fish...it really doesn't matter. Another thread is they saw dead CARP in the Nottoway I haven't heard of any dead bass.

I wasnt really sure what he was saying and I know its against the law to do your own "re-stocking"...thats why I was trying to get a clear understanding.

I know all of us here are feeling the pain of yet another possible set back on those awesome rivers!

Maybe the boats from the tournament running up and the river will help churn it up and maybe help make alittle bit of oxygen .....maybe

Re: SOMETHING TO PONDER ! (FLIPNMAN)

I think tournament fishing may actually help AFTER the oxygen levels are normal. I was in a club the year after Isabel. We fished out of Plymouth on the Roanoke. Good sacks were had from Cow creek up but it was the dead sea below that. I believe re-locating those bass helped!

But it does make sense not to have tourneys until the O2 is good.

Re: SOMETHING TO PONDER ! (FLIPNMAN)

I was saying give the 3 rivers a break FROM NOT MOVING BASS from where they are caught, boats running up and down the rivers will NOT help from what I was told by VDIGF. Some BASS have been found dead but not as many as other fish. With the rains we are getting it may or may NOT help ! I would just like to try and SAVE any bass that may have survived this ORDEAL ! Thanks for the feed back ! As for what Funkja is saying may be OK IF level come back up as for now they are still very low.

Our club RULE 9 is going somewhere else instead of the Nott. this Sunday. So we will NOT be there making this situation worse. As far as tourney's go on the rivers, I think it will help the fish out when the river returns to normal. Seems like it normally takes a few years though.

Good call on ya'll's behalf Mike Cherry. As far as boats running in the river adding oxygen, they'll add thousands of PPM carbon monoxide (a natural oxygen displacer) for every single PPM of oxygen they add.
