Have a 2 year old Chesapeake Bay Retrivier that I am fixing up a kennel for in my basement. She has been kept in a dog crate in the kitchen for the 2 weeks I have had her and she is primarily an indoor dog. Previous owner kenneled her has well during the day and let her out from time-to-time to do her stuff, so she is use to the cold and does not seem to mind it for the short time she spends outside in it.
My question is this: How cold is to cold for her to spend the day in the basement while I am at work?
I put a thermometer down there today and it showed averaged between 45-55 degrees throughout the day. Being mostly an inside dog is this that to cold for her to be there all day. I know she is bread to handle cold and cold water, but I am worried the shock will not be good for her. I am putting a nice warm dog bed down there for her as well so she is up off the concrete floor too. Is this enough or should I put a small space heater down there for her as well and keep it on low for her?
Overthinking this I am sure, but what say you all...
