    Dog/Basement Question

Have a 2 year old Chesapeake Bay Retrivier that I am fixing up a kennel for in my basement. She has been kept in a dog crate in the kitchen for the 2 weeks I have had her and she is primarily an indoor dog. Previous owner kenneled her has well during the day and let her out from time-to-time to do her stuff, so she is use to the cold and does not seem to mind it for the short time she spends outside in it.

My question is this: How cold is to cold for her to spend the day in the basement while I am at work?

I put a thermometer down there today and it showed averaged between 45-55 degrees throughout the day. Being mostly an inside dog is this that to cold for her to be there all day. I know she is bread to handle cold and cold water, but I am worried the shock will not be good for her. I am putting a nice warm dog bed down there for her as well so she is up off the concrete floor too. Is this enough or should I put a small space heater down there for her as well and keep it on low for her?

Overthinking this I am sure, but what say you all...

I wouldn't worry about a space heater. I would build a pallet or something to keep him up off the concrete a bit though. would probably keep the cold from transferring through the dogbed but I'm no expert.
Good to see you on here again Gary!!!!!! been a bit.

will put a quilted moving blanket or two down on the concrete and her bed on top of that, so that should be okay. worried she will chew a pallet and cut her mouth which will cost me more in vet bills as i spent about $400 on her 2 days after getting her.

Boy is that ever true!!! Elizabeth's sister wound up at VA Beach SPCA the other day, and was left with no bedding on a concrete floor. She developed a skin infection in the 36 hours she was there! Thank heaven, she is in Rescue now......

Dakota has a skin infection now from the previous owner keeping her on concrete. That and an inter ear infection cost me $300 two days after getting her. Money well spent though...

Glad you have her!! I will never in life understand how people can neglect or abuse any animal.... SPCA...think about what that stands for...
Prevention of Cruelty!!! How is it prevention when they have nothing but a concrete floor? And don't even get me started on PETA!!! They once were good when they dealt with lab animals, etc...but now a huge joke...
