Please help. My tach quit working. Does this mean my rectifier want bad. 2004 150 johnson
Put a dvm on the battery posts while idleing on the muffs and see if you get 12.8 to 13+ The retifier should be charging. Could be a bad tach. If you have wingnuts on the starting battery...lose 'em.
12.8 on the batt at idle. Loosen wingnuts?
Don't "loosen" your wingnuts just loose them.![]()
You know like, throwem in the trash and replace
with SS locknuts. Wingnuts can cause you some problems.
straight tach. Is there a meter reading I can take at the tach?
Set your meter to DC volts with the engine running at approx 1000 RPM connect the red lead to the gray wire and the black lead to the black wire on the back of the tach. The voltage should be ~ 8-9 volts DC. If you have voltage there replace the tach if not then replace the rectifier.
With the engine off and the key on move the red lead to the purple wire, you should have battery voltage there, if not correct this path.
