    Now that my GPS works....?

Which chip do you all recommend for fishing most of these NC rivers? Does anyone have any experience with the Lowrance chip, or is Navionics the only way to go?

    Thanks, Bill

Bill, if you want detail on the rivers and the lakes, you'll have to buy two chips. The Navionics Premium is hands down better than the Lowrance chip when it comes to the lakes, I mean no comparison. But Navionics only has lakes on it. To get detail for the rivers, you'll want the NauticPath coastal waters chip produced by LEI. It has great detail on all coastal waters, as well as inland rivers connected to coastal waters. http://www.lei-extras.com/stor...t.asp

    Bill,

I've got the NauticPath inland waterways chip Greg V. spoke of, I also have the Navonics Hot Maps lake chip. And I also use a homemade chip form the Lowrance Map Create software. So here's what i can tell you:

The river chip is good info, if you're staying in the main channels. If you go very far upriver (past the tressel on the Perquimans, a little ways past 258 on the Not, etc.) or if you go into any of the creeks, it will read as if you're on land.

The Lowrance Map Create shows most all of the creeks and upriver, but doesn't give depth contours at all. Works well to waypoint spots though.

The lake chip, on Kerr and Gaston works great. Plenty of info, depths, contour lines etc.

If you'd like to give one/more of them a try I'd be happy to let you borrow them to see how they work for you.

Thanks Daryl, I think I'll just let the wife order me a Navionics chip for my birthday this weekend.

I've got a NauticPath coastal waters chip that I can not use any more. It only works in Lowrance units and I've moved over to Humminbird I no longer need it. Make me a offer
