    Decarb

I have a 79 Johnson 150 model 150TL79C. I don't know if the motor has ever been decarbed and I have never done so either. My question is would it be worth the effort to do so or am I just wasting my time? I have talked to a couple of people who all own newer boats and they mentioned that it might cause problems with my motor being as old as it is. It runs good now but was wondering what would be the pros and cons of decarbing it and could it cause problems with the rings or compression etc?

I would run some seafoam thru a couple tanks of gas first, just to help soften it up, then pull a good decarb. JMHO

I have been running Lucas fuel treatment in the last several tanks. Would this be sufficent or should I switch to the seafoam first?

The Lucas is an automotive type fuel treatment, I personally would use a marine type like Seafoam, Ringfree etc.. Then get a can of BRP engine tuner and do the decarb. The gurus may weigh in on this if I'm wrong.
