    Performance Question 24 Puma STS

I had a chance to run full for a few miles, two of us, medium load, 1/2 tanks boat was soaked.
I got to 72 mph @ 5800 RPM with my 24 Fury, my buddy who was running heavier in a 25 Caymas CX21 can turn 6000 but gets 69 mph with the same prop.

I can't understand why he can turn 6000 and I can't, same motor. Really scratching my head.

    Any thoughts?

Oh and a side note, I was in some 3-4 footers crossing Lake Champlain in 20 mph winds. I was stuck in a bad spot and the Puma got me home safe, we did spear two waves pretty bad but all in all we make it back safe. I will NEVER do that again...that is a scary situation!!

he might have more prop slippage likely and your hull is better through the water--you need a 23 fury or a 24 bravo1 to try--- ptp up around 3 below?

Forgot to mention it had the prop worked by Ronnie Gilbert, he also added some cup to help lift the bow.

Your buddy with the Caymas is probably running the prop higher than you are, a BCB hull runs a deeper prop to pad than a Triton or Phoenix hull, being a Bentz boat, I'm sure the Caymas is running a higher jackplate setting as well. That get's more prop slip than you get, if you raise your jackplate, your rpms will go up, but your speed will stay the same or drop. You would also lose more prop blades than if you keep that Fury buried. I would really try a 23 Fury 3, that will get you the rpms, Ronnie can work it for speed as well.

I’ve got a 24 fury worked from Ronnie and another just b&b’d from propeller dynamics. They are within 1 mile an hour difference between the two. They are on the limiter at 6200 anywhere between 77 and 78 miles an hour two 180lb men in full tournament load. The one from Ronnie has got a little more cup for bow lift. That said I’d agree you have to much prop in a 24p worked with cup with a 250. Hence only getting 5800. The caymus I’d agree is less efficient so it’s getting more prop slip, that’s why your buddy is able to turn it up to the RPM that he is all the while, not going faster. A worked 23 I’d agree should be the sweet spot and get you 1-2 more mph. Winter time your worked 24 should be good to go.

^ This is an accurate assessment. You are apples and peas on the difference between your friends boat and yours. The slippage is totally different of those two boats.

Should I get it bent down to a 23 1/2, if that is possible?

Caymas boats don't perform like Bass Cats do so don't pay any attention to what he is getting out of his.

it’s possible though not ideal. It’s always a better situation for a prop guy to tighten one up (taking a 23 to a 24)rather than loosening one up (taking a 24 to a 23) as far as pitch goes.

That north wind on Champlain has been nasty lately! I too will agree that your boat would likely benefit from a blueprinted 23 Fury. A worked prop can make a big difference.
