    1991 Fast Strike

Hello all. I have a 1991 GLEIS fast strike 150. I was recently able to obtain an easy timer through another forum member, but before I was able to use it, my outboard has developed a couple issues. I was previously able to see around 5300 rpm at wot and low to mid 60’s on a 1992 Laser 3880. 3 1/8 prop to pad with 10 rapid jack and 24 raker blueprinted by Croxton. Had a little trim left but was working through chine walk. Last year I rebuilt all 6 carbs, fixed leaking vst cap, fixed leaking primer solenoid, replaced fuel line and bulb with 3/8 BRP. Did a link n sync. Everything is good and all plates are closed at idle and open fully at WOT. Plugs are the correct champions, and idle orifices were changed from 43 to 36, which helped the idle. Also, it appears the powerhead has been swapped at some point. The freeze plug serial number doesn’t match the tag, the heads aren’t the “hot” ones, and the timing wheel does not have the part number for 1991 (a one off year from my understanding). Motor is premix with the oil side capped on the VRO. Last time out it ran very rough from idle all the way to WOT. I could only get it to pull 3900-4200 rpm. It seemed like it was not firing on all cylinders. Hole shot was much slower. When the key is pushed in it bogs, so sounds electrical in my mind? Could it be a fuel issue (air leak) even if it doesn’t pick up with the key pushed in? I swapped out the power pack, optical sensor, and plug wires with new CDI items. Took it out and it runs slightly better but still low on power and same low WOT issues. Could this be a bad coil pack or stator? One other thing of note, it idled higher with the new power pack 1050-1100 in neutral and 650-700 in gear. Quick start did appear to work and stopped once it was warmed up. I purchased an inline spark tester and will give that a try this weekend. I have been going through my OMC manual and reviewing possible culprits. Does anyone have any ideas? Hopefully something simple. I did check compression. All at least 95 within 5 lbs. I also checked high speed orifices are fully seated. I appreciate all the help.

Forgot to add: I changed the fuel filters recently. Also, I am unsure if this outboard has any functional warning tones? The control box appears to be an older OMC unit, but I don’t see any visible horn. I have not heard anything when starting. Wondering if the fuel restriction alarm is occurring, but I’m not hearing it. I would think it would pick up when I pushed the key in if that was the case. It runs rough from idle all the way to WOT, or at least what I’m getting for WOT, and the engine sounds a bit “off”. I do not have the shift interruption switch.

I messed with it tonight and might have made progress. Found there was no spark to one cylinder. I swapped out with another coil and now have spark on all cylinders. Will water test and report back. It does sound better on the muffs.

Is there an R in the serial number? The 91 is a one off engine, the crank is smaller on the 91 and the timing disk will only work on that engine none others and is no longer available so be careful when working on it.

Serial number on motor mount bracket is G02960118. Number on freeze plug below the power pack is G3068918. The part number on the timing wheel is 513917, which appears to be for a 1992 and up, which makes be believe it’s a newer powerhead.

They don't match so that is a good indication a power head swap has happened. Contact BRP support (number in the stickies) with the power head SN they may be able to help if the SN hasn't been purged.
