    Ranger Cool hubs 2007 trailer

I bought this boat that was used primarily on a lift and the trailer has seen little to no use at all. As for maintenance on the cool hubs, and or replacing them out, what would you do ? I am about to take the boat to Canada in July. Its tandem axle and I had the goodyear endurance put on them last year as well.

I would inspect the brakes from front to back. The steel brake line that runs down the frame of the trailer is prone to rot. Also, if this is a road armor trailer, inspect closely for rot under the coating. Look for bubbled up areas. Inspect bunk hardware and standoffs. They are nice trailers but prone to rot.

if it has USA made bearings, I would reuse them or get new USA made brgs if not.

crawled underneath the trailer and saw that the cool hubs are leaking and bad. Called ranger and was quoted $1322 for all 4 sets converted over to vortex. I wish I could locate the hubs elsewhere but trying to make sure I have the right part# and cross referencing is not working out. Doesn't this price seem kinda high ?

I like those 81013, they have the higher rating as the ranger ones they were gonna send me were the 81017 and the 81022 - kinda strange to send me different sets of hubs, unless the front vs back requires different hubs. I would rather go with the 81013 for all 4. I wish I knew if it takes different size hubs for the front tire vs back. Anyone know ?

If the COOL Hubs are leaking, it's likely just a bad rear seal. The ubs and bearings should be fine. Tear downt he hubs and clean all of the oil out of them. Replace that rear seal with a double lipped one and pack the hubs with grease. Install Bearing Buddies and you're good to go.

I am following- have the same issue with a 2007 trailer. What are the part numbers needed for vortex hubs front and back? Are they indeed different?
Maybe because one axle has brake rotor????
    thanks in advance

Me, I didn't have issues with the COOL hubs. Actually liked them. I think there were issues that came up due to disinformation between the COOL hubs, filled completely, and the later Vault oil bath hubs, filled halfway, and guys were mixing up the maintenance. Would certainly be better than these Vault hybrid grease hubs.

I went with the 81013 and they fit perfect. Got them from trailer parts superstore, real easy to work with.
