Feedback on Ram 3.0 twin turbo Hurricane

Looking at buying a new Ram and don’t know anything about this motor. I’m currently in a 2020 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi. What can I expect for a difference between these two trucks.

I just bought a Ram 1500 with the SST HO

I have owned a Hemi before, this motor blows the Hemi away.

Bad ass truck, fun to drive and fast.

Only downside is it doesn’t sound like a Hemi, I don’t need the noise, I prefer the quite as I age.

Hemi is coming back for 2026. I've been to 4 larger dealers to try to get details. All 4 dealers say yes it's coming back, but Stellantis has not released official details yet. I requested they contact me when they can order them. We'll see if they do or not.

There's tons of youtube videos. Personally I own a 2019 with the Hemi, I'd buy the truck with the hurricane engine no doubt.

I wish they'd bring back the single cab 1500 because I'd buy one with the Hurricane for sure over a 4 door midsize. Just don't like the fullsize 4 door trucks.

Several well known issues on the Hurricane motors. Oil leaks, turbo issues and chronic overheating. Its a powerful motor and even more so in the HO. Still has less towing capacity than my Ram which is odd. I honestly can’t wait for the new hemi.

less towing capacity make me think the engineers who designed dont think it will hold up for heavy duty applications. Makes you wonder. Ford does the same thing with the 2.7. Lower towing capacity even though it has plenty of power to tow as much as a 5.0.

Me too. Holding onto my 2019 till the new Hemi comes back. Would love to see a 6.4 in the 1500.

Sounds like a typical Ram truck.

No real issues with my 2016 but it's just a Tradesman. A lot less to go wrong. The chassis is rock solid too. I do baby this truck though.

Spec wise, the HO Hurricane has the HP & torque numbers, but it was a hard pass for me. I just happen to be in the camp that believes in larger displacement for longevity. Turbos run hot, and the Hurricane seems to have an overheating issue, linked to the thermostat. Simple fix, but this issue seems to have been around since they came out. For now, I’m staying with the 6.4 Hemi that’s on my Grand Wagoneer, possibly (finally) considering a diesel on the next purchase - main reason being that I don’t mind bad gas mileage, but bad gas mileage on top of premium gas requirement makes me feel like I’m getting bent over twice.

this ^^^ and do the same for the "new" Hemi. Don't be a "test mule".

Just sold a 2021 and bought the 1500 with hurricane. Hurricane sounds like a wimp at idle. Runs like a scalded dog from 0 to 60. More responsive, 3.92 rear end. So far so good.
