Best water softener for the money and reliability.

I have all the hook up for a 1" water softener because I had one years ago
and I'm looking for one to put back on my house. I'm fine with a salt one and just
am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what brand to go with.
    Thanks in advance.

Kinetico is a popular choice here.

I ordered a Pro+Aqua system from Home Depot and installed it myself. I installed a two tank system. First tank removes impurities; the second tank is a softener system with the salt/brine tank.

I installed a Rheem last year and it has been fine. Uses very little salt and water testing shows it's softening as we like it. They extend the warranty as long as you run their softener cleaner a few times a year. Prior to that we had a GE that we installed in our old house in like 2016, and it was great, used more salt than this Rheem we got from Home Depot.

Don't go standard salt...potassium chloride is the way to go for whole home. You won't need filters at your taps as you would with the salt. Using more is false. We had a family of 7 one bag every couple months. It is more expensive per bag.

Aqua Systems. We did a ton of research. Our waste has improved over the aged Kinetico System. Not the the Kinetico System worked poorly it was just an older model and they've all improved.

To piggy back on to this, has anyone installed a whole house filter setup? Not concerned with a softener but would like to look into filtering it.

I own a water purification company. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have.

I had a softener guy come out in January. Told me I needed a softener and iron filtration system at a cost of $6800. I told him no way and asked why I needed an iron filtration system now but not with my softener that had gone bad. He said the newer softeners use less salt and water but don’t work as well which explained the need for the iron filtration system. He then told me he could rebuild an old softener for $2K. I went with that option and have no regrets. There’s only two of us in the house but we are still on the four bags of salt they put in the system with the install. See if someone will rebuild one for you.

That’s a lie. He was just trying to sell you another unit to make more money. Softeners remove iron now like they always have. Only thing I recommend adding is a ResUp feeder to the brine tank if you have iron in your water.

Thanks for all the reply. Los Angeles county says I can't use a salt system.

Doesn't surprise me but what is the reasoning?

I bought a generic one 30+ years ago and still works fine. Has a big tank for salt that holds 6 bags. Has a big cylinder with media that does the work.
