We have Consumer Cellular here in Maine and we traveled to NS a couple of weeks ago. Once we hit Canada we had no cell service. What companies offer cell service in the US and Canada? or, how would I get temporary cell service in Canada?

I have Verizon and when I cross into Canada I automatically get cell service through a Canadian company for $5 per day onto my Verizon bill. I get a text from Verizon and can opt out by turning off my phone.Originally Posted by Big Al
Verizon works fine in NB, NS, and PEI. You have to check your calling plan to see if it's included. We had it on one plan and then we didn't on the next. I'm with TMobile now. Expect to have service over there but haven't had a chance to test it yet

We also have Verizon and have Canada calling on our phone plan. Friends who come up to our cabin will call their provider prior to their trip and add Canada coverage for a few bucks a day.

You can use Consumer Cellular in Canada, but you need to enable international roaming on your account, and be aware of the associated costs.
