Best Trolling Motor For Grass And Around Trees

What trolling motor is best to beat up. I have a minn kota ultrex 112 right now and it does fairly well, I’ve broken one shaft and replaced it, I go through one prop every 4-6 months. I think I need to replace the bushings because the shaft moves a lot when I hit the throttle. It’s pretty quiet unless I’m hitting stumps or in grass. Just wondering which trolling motor is the toughest. Every time I go out I’m either carrying grass on the prop, hitting cypress knees, stumps, docks, I even hit the bottom and drag it through dirt. The trolling motor I have now has taken me a long way but if I ever get another boat or if this one breaks I want to know which one to get.

I used to think the Ultrex was the toughest trolling motor out there until they came out with the Quest. Built like a tank.

112 Fortrex. My fish a lot of trees because the lake and the area off fish have a lot of cypress trees. And mucho stumps. The 112 Fortrex to me is the ideal trolling motor to fish around trees and stumps and Cypress knees.

I'll second this, if you can live without the newer tech of GPS, Spot lock etc the Fortrex is pretty much a tank. Put a grass ninja (or two) on it, and it will cut through anything.

Raise the trolling motor so that it’s not lower than the boat draft, if the boat can’t cross it then the trolling motor shouldn’t, or from your description it seems a push pole would be the correct answer, and it would last longer.

The issue is the TM gets to the stump first. The pole might well be the only answer.

Have had the Ghost for going on 5 seasons now and it actually does pretty decent in the spinach with the Ninja grass cutter. As for the prop.............needs a huge upgrade.

Ultrex is the most durable spot lock trolling motor available. If you want a more durable trolling motor you will need a Fortrex or an older Motorguide pro series.

the move is much better built than the quest as well as 25 lbs lighter, the mount and pivot system is far superior as well
    Thank You Leon Pugh

No cable steer though so no thanks, plus it costs twice as much.
