    Trailer axle

Has anyone tried to turn down the treads on the end on an axle that do not hold tight anymore?

Are you referring to the Axle Nut on the spindle ?? If the threads are rough, you can use a Thread Chaser to clean them up unless they are stripped. Then you'll need new spindles or even a new axle. I don't think you can cut them down to a different size, maybe ??

Yes, that is what I am asking. I want to cut the threads on the end of the axle down to a smaller size. Trying to avoid buying an $850 new axle.

Not sure if that can be done. That's some pretty tough metal. Is your trailer a single or duel axle ? If a duel, you might be able to get it to a shop that can do that.

It is a dual axle, but I have decided to just bite the bullet and get a new axle. If I can salvage this one, I might make a small utility trailer with it.
