Batteries for 2016 Tracker TXW 17

I just purchased this boat it has a 60 hp mercury Four stroke. It did not have any batteries in it and someone tell me what size batteries for the starting motor and trolling motor. I should be buying thanks in advance.

Simple 12 V system for now

I don't know about the 60 HP Merc. The usual setup would be a group 24 for the starting and electronics and a group 27 for the trolling motor. You should find out if the group 27 has enough amps to start the 60HP Merc, if so I would go with 2 group 27's.

Are you running a 12 volt or 24 volt trolling motor. For what it's worth I'm running a group 24 for my starting battery on my 115 Merc along with it powering up two fishfinders, livewell and bilge. It's never let me down in over seven years. Go with group 27 for trolling.

I’m running just the stock 12 volt for now. I’d certainly like to run a bigger trolling motor with spot lock, but I’m not sure what’s involved in that.

Yup, a 24 cranking and 27 deepcycle is standard. And unless you never fish in the wind you'll want a 24v trolling motor on that boat. An 80# thrust motor will cut through just about any wind within reason.

Is that small spot with someone already on it really worth finding out the hard way they don't like company? Keep it a mystery and go somewhere else.

To go to a larger (24 volt) trolling motor you would need two 12 volt batteries dedicated to the trolling motor wired in series to yield 24 volts. If you find that your present single battery system for your 12 volt motor isn't giving you enough run time you can add a second trolling battery wired in parallel. That will increase your capacity (available amp hours) while still providing 12 volt output. If you later go to a 24 volt motor, just change the wiring configuration to series. One other note is to have the two batteries the same age or nearly so.

2012 PT190 here with 24V TM. I go big or go home so, 2 group 31 AGM Duracell's for TM only, 1 group 31 AGM Duracell for 2 9" Lowrance, live well's, starting, stereo, (when I want some tunes) and lights. I know, a bit overkill but that's what I do. Starting battery holds a full charge all the time just running from spot to spot and back to the ramp. They are heavy but I always have power. I've been dead on the water twice and there will never be a third time.

You want at least a group 29 for the trolling motor. I run a 29 for the cranking battery as well because I have 2 9 inch fish finders on it as well.
