I recently rebuilt my lower unit for a 1995 Evinrude 150 60 degree, used the OMC shimming tool and used all new gears, bearings, and seals. I thought originally the motor was a 1992 with a 1995 lower unit. The motor may in fact be a '95, but it has '92 carbs on it. Anyways, I mistakenly installed a new bearing carrier OMC #434400 (1992) and it was supposed to be OMC# 435096 (1995). I think this led to the O-ring leaking gear oil after running it on the muffs. The prop shaft also didn't turn smooth and I could hear rubbing. From the diagrams, it looks like the carrier is longer for the '92 model. Did I do permanent damage to the case, or can I just correct the issue with a new O-ring and correct bearing carrier? Appreciate the help!
The retaining tab does not look engaged to the depression / recess in the gear housing.
the only way to know is pull it to inspect and compare to the version removed.
Are you sure you used the correct seals at the propshaft ? There are 2 o rings available for the v-6. It sounds as if you used the smaller version causing the propshaft not to turn easily, and therefore not sealing. Make sure the seals you used are #334950.
That is just a superseded part number that carrier has been used on the V-6 gear cases from 1991 to 2011. The latest part number is 5004257 part numbers change as changes are made to product. Both part numbers you listed are no longer available. Here is a link to the compat chart for the part. https://www.marineengine.com/newpart...num=OMC5004257
