Mercury v8 warranty info on my engine

I am looking to get warranty info on my engine. It is currently throwing an alarm for (shift position sensor is not working properly). I believe I purchased the extended warranty but don’t remember how long it was for. If you could please look into this for me Don I appreciate it.

Warranty ended in May, 2022. Had a Service Contract (Gold) until May 2024. No further coverage available.

Does have an outstanding SAFETY bulletin, SB 2023-30 that should be addressed.

    Thank you!
Is this something I can diagnose and repair myself or does it need to go to a dealer?
I also got a code for the shift actuator so I am guessing that is what went out since that seems to be common on these engines but obviously I would like to check the sensor out first. Can this be accomplished using the diagnostic manual I own or does it need to be hooked up to a computer?

You would normally need a shift actuator test harness and the G3 System to accurately diagnose this type of failure (at least to a high level of certainty).

The Service Bulletin does have a consumer-completed option: See the letter sent from Mercury Marine for instructions on how to address that bulletin (sorry, we don't provide links to that site here).
