    Joint supplements for dogs

I've been giving glucosamine/chondroitin tablets for humans to my dog for years with positive results but she's gotten to the point where she doesn't really gulp her food anymore. Used to coat them with peanut butter, gravy, or whatever I had on hand and she would inhale it. Now she'll lick the coating off and spit out the tablet. Looks like I'll have to switch to a chewable form.

What have you found that you would recommend? Brands like Cosequin, Dasuquin, and Pawfy get positive reviews but you have to watch the dosages or you end up having to give 3 tablets a day which adds up at $1 or more per tablet in addition to her other meds and fancy food she gets. FYI this is for a 75# collie

I feed 3 tablets every day to my 12 year old lab mix.

Amazon.com : Nutramax Laboratories Cosequin Maximum Strength Joint Health Supplement for Dogs - With Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM, 132 Chewable Tablets : Pet Bone And Joint Supplements : Pet Supplies

I just toss there in his food bowl and he eats them just like food.

Maybe he just isn't a picky eater?

Dasuquin has Helped our old dog out. No need to cover it up with anything, he just eats it. Think we give him one and a half every night. It for sure makes a difference.

Have you noticed a difference yet? I can tell when my dog hasn't had her supplements. Within a week or two she has more trouble getting around

Not to hijack, but what about cats? Mine is a very picky eater. Maybe there is a cat food that provides the supplement needed. Pretty sure she is not going to eat a pill. Eats 3 small shrimp a day and half cup of Iams salmon flavor.

Been using Missing Link for joints and coat for close to thirty years now.

Started with our GShepard was about three years old. Had a mild rash on her belly. Nothing the vet helped really. It would just keep coming back. Vet suggested trying it. Cleared it up faster than anything else. Kept her on it for the joint support. She never had a joint problem and her skin and fur stayed healthy.

Continued with our Austy terrier her health was always perfect for over 14 years. Shot updates killed her a week later.

I give my dog a chicken gizzard a day. It is a natural source of glucosamine

He started moving better but then last night has developed a significant limp in his right front leg. Taking him to the vet tomorrow to get it checked out.

My Beagle has a rare genetic disorder where her knee caps pop out really easily and she has been on Dasaquin since she was one and it works wonders.

Cats and meds are seldom a good combination. That said, I've never given joint supplements to a cat. Any time ours needed meds, I usually asked for the liquid form and sent it down the throat with a dropper

That sucks when you try to do preventive care and end up hurting them. Similar thing happened when I put flea and tick repellent (fipronil) on the cat. She suffered for days and finally had to put her down despite the best efforts of the vet. Felt terrible for causing her suffering

Look up the Dogswell brand hip and joint chews. They have chicken or beef flavor. Looks like jerkey. My dog has become quite picky but he thinks these are a treat and eats them up no problem.

Yes it did. She hadn't slowed down but maybe a half step. We didn't make it out of the parking lot. I seen she was in distress and could see it in her eyes. One of the worse days of my life. We gave her IV's three times a day trying to get her through it. Nothing helped and after a week we had to let her go. There was just 0 improvement. We've had the same vet for 30+ years and he was upset too. We have decided that once they get to 10 only the required shots and NOTHING else.

depends on how your dog reacts to taking pills but mine seems fine with me pushing it to the back of his throat and he swallows it. if he acted upset I wouldnt do it.

Try putting raw eggs in its food. That helped out our German shepherd a bunch.
