evinrude 225 HO Ficht not cranking

So I have a 2002 Evinrude 225 HO Fitch and It refuses to turn over. I checked the batteries and they are new so is the fuel. all the relays and fuses are ok along with the solenoid which has been tested. I found that the ground for the solenoid is activated by the emm and when jumping the ground and ground the solenoid the engine turns over but doesn't start. Ive looked around and found nothing so any help would be appreciated.

Start by verifying that the neutral safety switch is functioning correctly, then check the key switch. Make sure when the key is turned to the start position you have 12v at the "S" terminal of the switch, then check for 12v at the "S" terminal of the start solenoid!

The key switch is new because I originally thought that was the problem and if I remember correctly it had 12 volts on side. is there any way to test the neutral safety switch?

The neutral safety switch is going to be in the remote control!
One other thing to be concerned about is the connectors for the key switch wires, the wires will break inside the sheath and you will not be able to see it making it hard to troubleshoot. That is why you need to check that wire from the key switch to the neutral safety switch to the start delay relay and the start solenoid!

So I tested the wire at the switch and I tested the wire at the relay and solinoid and got 12 volts

Always look where the last work was done first. As far as the neutral switch, if you hold the (properly functioning) ignition switch in the START position, and move the gear selector back and forth and the starter engages, the switch is out of adjustment or broken.

I keep a ignition switch and harness in my tool box just for these reasons plus I don't like hopping in and out of the boat when testing the engine. Disconnect the boat side harness and plug in the key and harness to the PDP.

I took the neutral switch out and tested it and confirmed that it works as intended. furthermore champion, thanks I didn't know you could hook it up that makes my life a lot easier since the boats on the lift.

I'm beginning to think it is the computer because when I jump the solenoid it doesn't start and furthermore I remember the engine dying as I was coming in and not wanting to restart. does anyone know if DFI or CDI is still around and how do they do?

All of the information always helps to diagnose a problem, the engine shutting off is a symptom of a failed PDP as well a a bad EMM! The PDP from that time period were bad to develop cold solder joints and cause any number of problems, I suspect that the voltage needed to wake up the EMM is not there! DFI repairs the EMM's as well as the PDP's

I didn't think the pdp was bad considering I'm getting 13 volts to the emm, furthermore the fuel pump works, the trim works, and the starter really clicks when I turn the key. I'm just not getting the ground on the starter solenoid which is a pink-white wire that leads to the emm (or at least that's what the manual says).

If the solenoid clicks, and you have like 9 volts or more on the motor side, you may have a locked engine or the starter might be engaged in the flywheel. With NO electricity to the motor, try turning the flywheel manually see if the starter gears are OUT of the flywheel. If you can confirm that the starter teeth are not in the flywheel, can you manually turn the engine a complete revolution by hand ? (don't cut yourself on the gear).

its not the starter because I jumped the solenoid and it turns over but does not start.

Usually when they don't start the bendix is stuck in the flywheel which will hinder the rpms needed to wake up the emm. Check for that and if it is rock the flywheel back and forth until bendix drops out and try again.

Bassmeister, I tested it today rocked it and ensured bendex is not engaged still nothing. it seems emm is not providing ground for solenoid and is not grounding it. I decided to send it to Ficht EMM repair since they were the only ones around to check the EMM and pdp.

Check the kill switch. It is a long story but mine was disconnected and the engine did some weird stuff that made me thing the emm was bad. It did things like start to turn over but then stopped. Like I said, it did some weird stuff.
