    Cool Showing off...

my new-to-me Champion. It's a 2006 model 188 with a 200 Optimax. The previous owner recently added new padded carpet and new factory seats, as well as dual blades and dedicated wiring with 2 Garmin 106SV units at the bow and a 126SV at the console. It's set up with a single 36V lithium for the Ultrex and an AGM cranking battery. Over the winter I plan to add a dedicated lithium for electronics and a Helix 10 at the bow with Mega 360. I had the 25 Tempest Plus worked by Mark Croxton and should be all ready to go come springtime. I've had it on the water a few times but haven't gotten to really open it up yet.

I spent a lot of time looking at 18-19 foot options as I need a single axle trailer for my garage setup but wanted the best rough water ride I could get. I'm coming from a 91 Pantera II which I really enjoyed but the engine gave up on me. I'm pretty excited to have all the bells and whistles without paying for a brand new ride.

One unique thing about this hull is that the bottom is metal flake as well. This is the first bass boat I've seen in person which is all metal flake top to bottom.

Most ChampioN boats are like that. I have a 1990 that is all flake from the top to the bottom.

A couple reasons for me. It didn’t have a swing away tongue so storage in the garage was tight. It had a small and narrow front deck and I like to use FFS (gasp) and am hoping to fish with my dad on the front deck as well. And lastly, I fish the great lakes and the wood construction worried me a bit. It was built like a tank and I’m sure I would’ve been fine but the thought of a catastrophic failure was always in the back of my mind.

Interesting. I know some guys say metal flake boats are slower so I wonder if these hulls are a few mph slower than a fully solid colored boat.
