As people repower more older boats with four strokes, I made a list of some of the best repower options for the lighter compact performance boats. Obviously, up until the 200R came out, the V8 250R and 300R were the best merc options, unless you wanted to modify a ProXS or regular merc like I did. Nose cone, mounts etc. With Yamaha, you have the ECU tuning option. This turns a 150 SHO 4 cyl into a 230 HP high revving engine, or the V6 into a 330 HP beast, plus a host of other parts for it. The 200R is nice out of the box with the sport master.

My grand sport will do 80 with a coned 150, the proxs will do a little more if you swap to 1.85 or 1.75 gears. Mine has 1.92. Technically you could bolt up a sport master to any of the Merc V6 four strokes DTS. The 175 ProXS is mechanical.

Here are some details about the most popular smaller four strokes for repowering small performance boats.
