    2002 520VX - Keypad / Brain Box questions

New to me 2002 520VX. The keypad appears to have been replaced previously, looks to be in great shape. The issues I am experiencing:

    1. The trim buttons, both up and down, stick occasionally. Sometimes causing the motor to go all the way up or down. Pressing the button repeatedly seems to stop it. (All other trim buttons seem to work fine. I haven't tried recreating the problem at the bow console because I just thought of that this very moment)

    2. The horn button occasionally sticks. Again, pressing the button repeatedly stops it.

    3. The fuel gauge will not toggle between tanks at all. It is stuck on the port tank, the gauge does read correctly for that tank. I have not tried switching the wires but the wiring appears to be in good shape at the tanks.

    4. The bilge button has a "manual" and "auto" setting. When the button is pressed they both come on. I don't think that's the way that is meant to work according to the manual, but I'm not sure it's really a problem either way. (the livewell fill/aerator pumps work the same way and that's the way the manual says they should work, although I think it's dumb that you can't toggle them independently as well as together).

I contacted Ranger and can get a new keypad for ~$350 and/or a brain box for ~@650. For now I think I can live with what is going on, but I would like to fix it eventually.

If anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear your opinion. Yes, I have read other posts with similar issues but I think there's probably more info out there.....

    Thanks in advance fellas.

First thing to try is disconnect your cranking battery. Get under console and
make sure all the connections to pad and Brain are pushed on really tight.
Hook cranking battery back up and see if improvements. One thing I would
do if you replace the pad and brain is install a cutoff switch on the power
if there is not one currently. Good luck

The "Auto" powers a float switch anytime the key is in the Run position. You don't have to do anything for it to work other than the key on or boat in Run. The button on the dash is for manual bilge pump and it turns both the Auto pump and the secondary. I think the only reason "Auto" is on the button is for the light, just to notify you that the Auto is running. Hope that makes sense.

When my trim up or down stuck, it was the solenoid, not the switch.
