Fighting Illini alum here! I left Chicago in 1983 and will never go back to dealing with anything resembling that commute.
No, thank God! Maine doesn't even have anything with 6 lanes each direction. I think I-95 from Portland to NH is the only stretch that has 6 total which kinda explains why it turns into a parking lot on every major holiday as people try to get through the York tolls.
Some people are so judgemental. You can tell just by looking at 'em.--Some random meme
In my earlier trucking days. Not for 15 years now.
No!
Not since 2016 when I retired and no longer have to go into DC or NoVA.
Nope, that would drive me crazy.
I sit in my buddy’s Tracker from time to time. But his is black.
Hang on. I'll help you in 77 minutes.
Did it for years. People here don’t know what traffic is.
During my career, if a car got behind me on my way to work, the day was ruined.
The most traffic I ever had was when I commuted to Albany, 1.5hrs one way. Once you get near the capital during rush hour you’ll typically experience three lanes of bumper to bumper traffic going 30mph in a 65. Only time it’s stand still is if there’s an accident.
My commute now is 14miles to the closest city and i rarely ever have to take the cruise control off. It’s a small city of only 60k and even during rush hour , downtown traffic is not bad at all.
heck we live in a town of 2k people and that’s the biggest we ever want to live in. Yet some think a 50k city is a “small town”

Not for years.
Only if taking a religious pilgrimage from NC to NJ. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Festival in Hammonton.
Why would you. Passing through yes but not everyday. I’d change location/jobs/back roads what ever I had to.
Looks like daily Nashville traffic since Covid and everyone moving here.
Ii is what is pushing me to retirement. I like my job and was considering working for a few more years but traffic is bad on my commute and getting worse.
this is my thought as well. Even passing through I’d drive an hour out of the way to avoid that nonsense.
but some people like living in very populated areas for whatever reason. And cities pay much higher than elsewhere for similar jobs. I worked with people who lived in Albany but worked in NYC, they took a 2.5hr train commute one way and made about double what they would around Albany, and about 150% more than what they would out towards my area

If I have to go through Chicago, I try and do it after midnight. Traffic then is still busier then most cities rush hour.

A few years ago the regional VP of the company I worked for wanted me to move to Chicago. I hesitated les than an instant to tell him “only if you triple my salary and buy me a house”. He only asked me once
About three years ago I swore off ever driving through there again. I’ve done pretty good and only been back a couple of times
