Anyone every changed the water pump on a 2004 25hp Johnson? I was advised by the parts house that the shifter rod would separate via a plastic e clip behind the water intake screen.
Upon dis-assembly I find my unit had a brass type union. I got the union separated but the male part doesn't seem to want to come off of the upper shifter shaft (it spins on the shaft but remains in the same spot) and has the stainless plate for the bottom of the water pump assembly trapped.
I'm trying to proceed with caution because I was told the power head has to be removed if this shaft has too be replaced.
Any tips or advice on how it comes apart?
