    Question Lithium with 2 stroke?

    Hey guys,

I've been looking into the ionic lithiums for my boat and was thinking about getting the 125ah starting battery. I have an 06 150vmax V150LTR.
Is anyone using one of these lithium starting batteries on their 2 stroke?

From what I understand, Yamaha says any lithium ion battery could overheat causing thermal runaway; so they don't recommend it. Ionic says they've seen it done to a bunch of 2 stroke motors and none have ever had an issue.

I can't store the boat where I live and I have already had all my batteries stolen once so, I take them out at the end of every trip. Currently I have a group 31 and 2 27's so the process is not fun on the ol back. This is half the reason why I was thinking of switching, to make it easier on myself for removal and install.

    What's everyones thoughts on this?

    Hey yam911,

I'm not sure why your message isn't showing up in the thread but I did get it.
Yes, I should have mentioned they said, lead acid, agm & gel batteries are acceptable. I understand where they are coming from as well , from a liability perspective, as there are hundreds of batteries to choose from today with varying degrees of quality and components.

'The alternator on your Yamaha model is similar if not identical to many other Yamaha models that are playing real well with certain lithium models and brands. Ionics certainly being one of them.' - Good to know. It seems Ionics have a feature that is supposed to not allow it to overheat, so, would that not stop the issue described above from happening?

As much as I would like to save my back and the struggle, I also want to be safe; which is why I'm trying to get as much information as possible before spending the $$$$.

Glad you got it even if I don't know how that happened. Operator error perhaps.
