Has anyone ever experienced a rattling noise at slow throttle with the engine engaged? The engine is perfectly silent at idle, until it is engaged. Any help would be geatly appreciated. Please email me at biss12002@yahoo.com Thank you for your time.

yep i think i know what your talking about, my 115 does this also just when its in gear as soon as you give it gas the noise dissapears.
I read on the etec forums some other guys have the same problem, i think it is meant to be like this, something about the gears in the lower unit.
Mine is as quiet as a mouse...what props are you running.

Most of the time it is the propeller. Sometimes a blade may be slightly bent or uneven and at idle it makes the normal propshaft move in and out while rotating. To find out for sure, just remove the prop and run the motor in gear at idle, chances are no sound. Another way is to try different props.
This assumes that the propeller nut and thrust washer are correct and torqued down.

I am not here to bash, I love my ETEC 115, I had similar problems. I had two different guys tell me that my motor did not sound right at idle. It ran like a champ and I had no other issues. I took it in and needed a new power head and I had just ran the motor for like an hour or more the day before. If yours is still under warranty I would recommend if you have a shop near you and you can stand being with out your boat for a few days take it in and have it looked at. I got mine back last week and I can hardly hear it.
Can you please inform us of the cause of you power head failure...history tells us the E-Tec 115hp are near bullet bullet proof.

I've got a 115 E-Tec and I have the 'prop rattle' only when using the heavier stainless propellers. Composite props and aluminum are never a problem...even the Viper was OK, but the Rebel and SST always had the rattle at idle and it always went away with a little throttle.
The prop is the factory aluminum prop. Thank you
