    '01 200 hp ficht evinrude power trim motor R & R

1 - Is it as easy as it looks or am I in for a surprise if I loosen those bolts and lift the trim motor out?

2 - Engine need to be all the way up, or just high enough to allow access?

I lifted the engine back up onto the transom saver using the release screw. Up & Down are dead, fuses good, relays are clicking & I'm going out now to make sure I have full power right at the trim motor

    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Matt

I have removed the motor without pulling the assembly but I think it is easier to just pull the two pins and drop the entire assembly. Just make sure the wires are ready to be pulled through the hole in the bracket. I am working from memory, I believe you will have to remove the tilt limiter either way. on the starbord side you will find the service support bracket, lift the engine high enough to deploy it.
    Good luck.

Re: '01 200 hp ficht evinrude power trim motor R & R (Danrude)

It's definitely the power trim motor, I have power right at the motor, and I was able to repeatably tap on the motor and raise the engine up to engage that service bracket.

I'm starting to pull the trim motor out, but it's kinna stuck and it's separating at the very bottom, (there's like a 1/2" piece between the motor & the hyd assembly) and it wants to separate there. and oil is pouring out if I try to lift it off. I see a big o-ring in there. Does it separate above that 1/2" piece? It doesn't seem to want to separate above the 1/2" thick piece.

ALSO... Were do I cut the blue & green motor wires? closer to the plug & engine so the connection stays dry right?

    Thanks,
    Matt

DO NOT cut the wires remove the cowl and belly pan for the port side you will see the connection there Blue and Green wires they will pull through the attach brackets. I always remove the assembly and do it on the bench it is a whole lot easier. You need to take the 4 bolts loose and out it will come.

Does it separate above or below the 1/2" thick piece????

the motor is stuck to the 1/2" thick piece and both are coming out, along with lots of oil... Am I doing this correctly?????

That is part of the motor and helps it stay in the bracket. The O ring seals it and a new one should be used.

You'll have to got to the hardware store and get a circlip to go over the pin if you remove it.

you mean the clips for the pins that hold the whole hyd assembly in? why? there's nothing wrong with the old ones. I used the proper clip pliers to remove them, and can easily reattach them to the ends of the pins when I reassemble.

trim motor is here on my desk, now I just have to find one.

I would guess you didn't remove the complete assembly from the brackets the bottom pin has a round clip on them and have to be replaced when removed.

The entire trim & tilt assembly is off the boat and on my bench, it is held in, and easily removed by removing an upper and lower pin.

These pins are held in by Circlips and easily removed with circlip pliers.

Circlips are made of tempered spring steel, and instantly return to their normal shape when re-attached to the end of the pin using the same circlip pliers used to remove them.

Unless your not using the proper tool, and somehow damaging, over spreading, or breaking this clips when you remove them, there is absolutely no need to replace them. Nor in this application are they being subjected to any forces or friction that would cause them to wear thin.

Properly removing Circlips, and re-attaching them does not harm them in any way, shape, or form!

I finally got around to getting a motor, and a few mins to put it all back together. (I went with a brand new OMC replacement). Bled without probs and works great. Now if this lighting would go away I could go fishing!

    Thanks Danrude, t-bone & ChampioNman
