Figured there would be more of a "Smoking Gun"

Don handled all my fuel system and compressor needs. Just waiting on the compressor that ships Monday.

Once he provided the condition of my fuel rails and injectors (Everything is new/ new to me except 1 air injector)..I went looking for the culprit. I started with the small inline filters running away from the compressor. They were full of metal. Pictures attached... I then removed the compressor and nearly disassembled it completely. I didn't find what I was expecting, the compressor by my amateur eye didn't seem to have a failure that matched the metal in the inline filters. Pictures attached.

The boat was new to me 3 summers ago, because of the condition of the current compressor, I'm thinking there was a compressor failure prior to my purchase, that was only half way fixed(didn't clean the fuel rails/ injectors)? And it ran until it didn't.. Would it run 3 summers of moderate use under that condition? It ran great once I got the props figured out..sent my Triton down the water at 79mph. 2007 Mercury XS Pro 250

Compressor Pictures, rings on the piston were intact and looked flawless.

That sure is a bunch of metal for how little wear is shown.

Wouldn't be the first time someone did something like this. Buyer beware.

I looked it over the best I could, water test ride/ drive included. I understand the risks involved in buying used...

Suspect you're correct, previous compressor failure, rails & injectors not serviced and filters not replaced. Good you're doing it right!

Yea, I'm in it to far to halfass it..not my nature to do so anyways. 300 XS or R would have been my next step, so while Don took a chunk of money from me, he also saved me about 28K

Will be interesting to see how it runs. It was kinda inconsistent coming out the hole, seemed to run best idling or WOT, in between it seemed to bog a good bit. I just didn't have anything to compare it to. Also 25,26 and 27 in 3 blade Fury props all turned up about the same. The only prop I tried that turned lower was a 27 Tempest.

Sorry this happened and hope it all ends up well. Any idea how many hours the motor has?

507 hrs, new power head under warranty at around 100 hours. So, I'll call it 407

Edit - I remembered wrong, 397 via vessel view mobile, so 297.

It will end up just fine.
