Help With Carling Livewell Rocker Switch Wiring

    Hi all!

I was hoping I might find an electrical pro on here for a bit of help. I lost the picture I had of this rocker switch wiring series. I'd take it to the marina, but I have a trip to Bay De Noc in 4 days...

2 black wires zip tied together with the jumper pin (bottom of picture) one goes to the carling switch next to it, the other goes to the RCL-12 Carplug timer
Red wire also goes to the timer
There are 2 brown wires with white remaining, one with the jumper pin - can't see the color in the picture thanks to by big stupid thumb - those go up into the loom - I didn't trace them very far...

I also attached a picture of the wiring diagram from Carling -

Fingers crossed someone out there can help!

    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

Black to pin 7 as ground for the lights.

    Power (red) goes to 5 and/or 2

Can’t see enough to know for sure about the browns. Try one on 1/4 and one on 3/6 and swap if it works backwards.

Thank you so much for the help CatFan!

I tried the combos suggested, the manual switch turned the aerator and the light on in location 4& 6, but nothing on the auto - no pump activation or light on the toggle turned on. Fliped those, and it was opposite. Tried other combos and one light would stay on all the time and that side of the switch worked, but not the other side.

I tried every possible combo of the 2 brown wires, some operate the manual correctly, but not the auto, or vice versa. Some have one of the lamps always on and the lamp that is on, the switch to that side activates the pump, but nothing on the other side. Only combo that got both lamps on the switch to work when they are supposed to was using the jumper pin on the brown switch with the other brown wire, but then the pump kept running after both manual or auto was turned off. Do you think I need a combo with the jumper pin?

I looked closer at the 2 brown wires with white lines and missed that the one with the jumper pin is mated with a blue wire that goes to the other RCL timer, you can see it in the image below, with the yellow splice, behind the connector with the jumper pin. The other single brown wire with no jumper pin runs into the loom to a plug, then appears to come off the other side of the plug and runs into the fuse panel. See pic attached -

Try putting your power in on pin 2 and leaving the brown wires off. The lights should work. Just trying to make sure the jumper isn’t a problem.

Nothing happens with the red wire on 2 and the black on 7. But when I attach the single brown wire with no jumper to pin 2 and black to pin 7, the rocker switch lights up correctly. I also tried the brown wire with the jumper on 2, and nothing. I put the single brown wire to the brown jumper, and not to any pin in the switch, and the pump goes on.

The red wire goes to one of the timer plugs, so guessing that one is not the power as it should be, and the single brown wire is? Since the red wire goes to the timer RCL-12 plug (not 100% sure that is the correct term for that), and the brown is mated with the blue wire that goes to the other plug, would those then run off to the pump?

Something is odd. Key on/off and master switch on/off when testing? Where are you in Illinois?

For sure something is off! I am certain there is some minor detail I am missing in my explanation that would make this super easy to figure. When testing the key is off, master switch is on. I'm near Chicago - my boat mechanics are D&R Motorsports in Kalamazoo. I think I'll set it up in the series that makes the auto function work and put it back together for now. I leave Friday 4am for Big Bay. I don't use the livewell much, but would rather be prepared for getting an official weigh in on a record smallie! haha!

Thank you, I definitely appreciate the offer and help!

I'm going to order new timers - maybe I burned one out when I was plugging wires into pins randomly, trying to figure it out - before I asked on here. I had already popped 3 fuses and burned out the original switch (ordered a new one and have been trying with that).

Ahh the struggles of a DIY guy!
