    Star rod

Just acquired a free Star rod. It appears old but seems very useable. There are a couple of chips in the clear finish. What is the correct clear finish that will make it look nice again? Thanks.

Could be/use three things, Urethane varnish, Permagloss or an epoxy paint, I used Klass Kote, it's used on RC model airplanes among other things, don't use rod finish, it is to thick and heavy. It is applied at the rod factories I've been to using a squeegee box, they put in the clear or dyed epoxy paint and the rod is fed through a small hole in a membrane, ran through except the last two inches or so and pulled out to hang by the tip, this is all before the blanks are trimmed to size. I airbrushed it on.

Same subject just brought up at rodbuilding.org and not the first time, might be worth looking there and signing up for future projects, there is a reason this is the longest running and most used rod building site by far, the people and the info available from posters and the extensive free library in .pdf format.
