    Tundra-Tow switch?

Does anyone use tow switch hauling your bass boat?

I used it pulling my buddies 520L to Florida and back. I pulled in 5th gear with the cruise about 75 and averaged 12 MPG over a couple thousand miles. I rarely used tow haul pulling my little 2700 pound RT188.

I do every time when pulling my boat. It is a heavier boat so I can tell a big difference. Also driving a 2020 Tundra.

I use it when towing any of my trailers. Figured it was better for the transmission.

Me too. Less gear hunting and less lugging.

Yes every time. It doesn’t do much other than extend the rpm’s on acceleration and gives some engine braking stopping. But it’s supposed to help and should be easier on your truck so why not.

No lugging or gear hunting if the Sequential Shifting Mode is used. Probably different on the newer trucks but on my 2010, all Tow-Haul mode does is hold gears longer between shifts. It still requires us to jump on the brakes every time we want to slow down a few miles per hour. Choosing which gear is best for load, speed and road conditions has worked for me since my truck was new. My Mechanic tells me I'll see 100,000 miles from my OEM brakes too; just another benefit. Choosing the highest gear to keep the Torque Converter locked up will also decrease heat instead of constant shifting up and down.

I use it on any of my vehicles. Get some engine braking and also believe it changes the tranny fluid flow a bit.

No, but my boat only weighs 3k at most. Truck is almost 17 years old and no problems so far. As I mentioned earlier Toyota trannies are bullet proof. You really don't here many problems about them.

No, I have a 2008 5.7 2X2 Tundra. When I first got the truck , not knowing how much power the 5.7 had, I used the tow haul the entire round trip when going to Clear Lake. I also down shifted manually when going up the long steep grades (probably picking too low of a gear each time thinking I didn't have enough horse power, funny) once I left I-5 to Highway 20. I watched the engine coolant temp and transmission gauges like a hawk. Big mistake, I only got about 10mpg. I learned to not use the tow haul mode and leave the transmission in drive. I didn't notice any difference in coolant or transmission temps compared to towing with tow haul and manually downshifting. The Tundra's transmission is very intelligent and knows when and how far to downshift going up steep grades. The only time I down shift is when going down the killer grades of Clear Lake so I don't go over 60mph. I got 21-22mpg not towing @70mph on the freeway and at least 15mpg towing @60mph (55mph speed limit towing). I use every hyper mileage trick in the book. A couple of years ago, my towing mileage dropped to 12 mpg with the non towing mileage staying the same. I didn't I noticed anything on level ground, but not having to downshift as far to slow down to 60mph when going down some of the killer grades at Clear Lake. Instead of downshifting from drive to 3rd, I only had to downshift from drive to 5th. I guessed the brakes were dragging or bearing issues. I had my trailer guy check things out and found out there was an issue with one of the calipers that was caught in time that could have been very bad. Towing mileage back to at least 15mpg.
