    Smoking motor

I have a 2001 200hp vmax. It starts and runs fine but when I stop to fish for 10~30 minutes, it's hard to start and then it smokes like a Forrest fire. I have run sea foam, fuel injectors cleaner, new filter and plugs. I have been told a riser / lifter pump could be bad and letting oil and gas seep into the combustion chamber. ( there are 6 of these mini pumps.) Any other suggestions? I am completely lost on this one.

3 actually and yes that is a good chance for the hard start and smoking. Along with a o2 sensor if it is a ox66. Cj

I have tried everything suggested to get my OX66 to keep from smoking at start up including changing the O rings on the oil pump. Still smokes bad on start up.

There are three lift pumps. A bad one could cause excessive smoking.

Thanks, I'll check the pumps and clean the o2 sensor and let you all know if it helps. Thanks again.

I would get a new NTK O2 sensor. Search for the model number. Believe it is 21006. Cheap and works just like the OEM. Never had any luck cleaning them.

You will always have smoke at start up. It is a 3+L 2 stroke but a good quality synthetic helps a bit, the good O2 sensor helps and doing a lift pump delete helps reliability. Check oil pump adjustment like Mike is telling you. .010 between the arm and pin at idle. I have mine adjusted a little leaner as I believe Mike has also but that is in the ballpark. cj

Installed the new 02 sensor and it helped some with the smoking but still smoked at idle speed. Adjusted the oil pump and that took care of the rest of the smoking. Thanks for the help.

No, not my first boat and yes a 20 year old 2 stroke will smoke at start up
Now, if you would bother to READ the post, it stated " after I stop to fish for 10~30 minutes it smokes like a Forrest fire." How about trying to read instead of being a condescending ass and you won't look so illiterate when posting.

It's because you have tuned it off and it is cooled down with a fuel and oil mix in the cylinders, you will have an incomplete burn at first start which will make it smoke more.
