    Fishing Texas

I've had some real good times fishing Texas.

On one trip to Fork, the lake was one foot high, I got out of the boat lane and knocked three holes in my boat. $4200.00 to fix it, good thing I had insurance.

On a trip to Ray Roberts I thought I saw two guys in a Stratos that I knew tieing up to eat, so I go over to them but it wasn't them, two Texans in a Stratos the same color. I decided to tie up and eat with them, I leaned over and my bad knee gave out and I fell out of my boat in front of two total strangers. Very embarrassing to say the least, one guy laughed and gave my hat, the other didn't think it was funny. But, I know what the bottom of my boat looks like in 12 feet of water.

One of my favorites was on a trip to Ray Roberts, I was waiting in line to launch, a guy from Texas walked back to my truck and asked, "did you hear about that (edit) from Kansas that caught our lake record?" My reply, "yes I did and you are talking to that (edit)." He said let me shake your hand, we did and we had a good laugh.

It don't matter who's in Austin Hoss, when you cross that Red River, Bob Wills is still the king. One of my thrills in life, to cross that Red River. Only 300 more miles to Holly Park.

Hey, did I tell you guys that I had the Ray Bob Record? Would anyone like to hear more?

Back in 1986 I was fishing Toledo Bend, out of Holly Park. It was real foggy one morning, I got out before the guides and took off down the lane in the fog. I didn't get to far and I was in the trees, I hit one about 8 inches thick and 25 to 30 foot tall, it broke off at the water line and fell across the boat lane. I stopped and then got the hell out of there. Every guide hit that tree on the way out. I didn't come in until way after dark. I caught hell the next morning but at least they were sober then.

That sure was a long story just to let you know that I hit a tree at Toledo Bend.

I was going to pull that tree out of the lane, but I heard them coming, so I didn't have time. I just got over in the trees and hid in the fog.
