06 Skeeter EZ Loader Trailer - Brakes lookup when braking hard

I replaced the shock in the A60 in April which resolved the clunking allowing the brakes to work much better. Perhaps a little too good.

I noticed that when braking moderately *edit* the wheels will lock easily probably scaring whoever is following me . This is not a reversing issue.

Should I take the caliper apart and greasing the pins or could this be something else I should look ta first?

What do you want the surge brakes to do when you brake hard at a fast speed?

I understand smashing the brakes at high speed would cause a lockup but they lock up really easily. Even stopping for a light it can look like i'm slamming on... something isn't quite right.

check for brake fluid or axle lube leaks on brakes--will cause brakes to be really grabby and lock up easier

On the A60, there used to be 2 different actuator model numbers for a single and dual axle brake setup.

    Possible the wrong actuator?

I think there were different springs in the actuators.

    Good luck

It's the original actuator as far as i can tell, i just replaced the piston as it was clunking but that was resolved. The spring looked fine when I had it apart. I'm going to bleed the entire system as a starting point. I don't see any leaks and the reservoir isn't losing fluid but that's a good way of describing it as grabby.

I went through something similar. First I replaced the calipers, then the actuator/master cylinder assembly. Still had sticking brakes….turns out it was the brake lines. Not sure if it was crud in the lines, but it was acting like a one-way valve, the trailer would brake, but they wouldn’t release. Bleeding the brakes was also becoming increasingly difficult (had to really push on the actuator rod) which was probably the warning sign.

Not sure on your trailer but my Shorelander has a rubber bump stop that I had to replace as I was getting the clunk on stops and brakes wanting to lock up. After replacing got rid of the clunk and breaks worked like they should,
