    Diane

I spent many years managing people, and having to terminate or lay off an employee is one part of it I don't miss at all. Diane is going to have to go through that today, and it is really hitting her hard. Her group is going to lose one person, and the lady has been a friend of Diane's for many years (over 20), and she is going to have to help some of the other managers with theirs.

Just think about her and all those affected today. I know she will appreciate your prayers, guys.

Hate to hear those type things.

I remember several years back having to fire my best friend. One year to the day after being the best man in my wedding I had to do it. Hardest conversation I ever had with him. We didn't speak for 6 months after that but, we did patch things up after that.

Larry, I truly feel for her. Having to terminate someone that you have established a relationship with is really tough. that she finds the strength and the right words to get through it and be able to hold her composure.

I have a tech working for me now that grew up in his family's communications business just as I did and ended up managing it, just like it did. He and I have been good friends for 30 years or better. When I offered him the job in 2005, we sat down and had a long talk and understanding that business was business and that somtimes he would be reminded who was boss. Fortunately, it has worked out great as he, being a manager in the past, is the type of employee that he wanted his employees to be. I pray that the day never comes that I have to let him go.

Been there many times when I was at the cop shop. It often involved people who were not only friends, but who had risked their life to insure my safety, many, many times. It is a very tough situation.

    Re: Diane (Tx Champ)

I use to fire guys all the time. I had 30 guys on the job one time and I was making my walk one morning. Found a guy looking out the window. I asked him did he find it. He said find what, I said that job your looking for. Pack your tools and get off my job site.
I was a hard ass for a lot of years, fired more people than I can remember. I even fired my super, twice. My later years mellowed me some, last couple of years I was in the drywall bizz, I only fired 3 that I can recall. Difference is, most of the ones I fired needed firing.

When I was young I use to enjoy firing people.
