    Merc 125hp - from 1999 - few issues

I was experiencing sluggishness on holeshot and a few MPH below previous years. Marina thought the issue was plugs so they replaced them. No improvement. Then they said the boat is probably water logged. I weighed it and it's about 2200 with all gear and full tank... about what I would expect. I looked at the plug wire going into the coil pack. The screw terminal was heavily corroded. So I bought 4 new ones with plug wires. Installed them and it starts fine, and will just idle, but when I turn it off, it will keep running. I can turn it off by pulling kill switch. And, when i put it into gear, it dies. I am thinking of putting in all old coils with new plug wires and testing that. Then replacing 1 pack at a time. Not sure this is related to the engine not turning off or not, but timing was exactly the same.

I read a few things about that, maybe there is an open in the switch to ground circuit. But for sure, kill switch stops, key does not.
