    Triton 17 explorer setup

Just put a 115 pro xs 4stroke command thrust on my 17 explorer has anyone else ran this setup or put a jackplate on? Trying to get the most I can out of it. Currently running a 24p tempest getting around 57mph with no jackplate 3.5inches ptp

I have an 2008 Triton 18 Explorer which if I remember correctly, has pretty much the same specs as yours.

On it I now have a 2018 115 HP Pro XS (Best motor I've ever had!) with a Mercury Marine SpitFire X7 12.7 x 19" 4 Blade prop, which this engine loves. RPM at WOT is 6100. My gear case is the standard, smaller version than the Command Thrust with a ratio of 2.07:1

I also have a 4" Hydro Dynamics Rapid Jack Magnum Series (Heavy Duty) Manual Jack plate. Don't recall exactly how I have it set up at the moment but I believe its 4.5-4.75" PTP which for me gives the best "overall" performance. (Took me a while to get it all dialed in!) It's simple to adjust up or down, and it has worked out perfectly.

Fully rigged (and over stocked with tackle), it has a great hole shot and at wide open throttle, along with a little chop on the water, the speed hits 51.3 mph - GPS.

Based on my 14 years of experience with this boat, (that I bought new with a Merc 115 ELPTO, WOT was 49-50 mph), 51.3 is about the most I'm going to get with this boat and motor combo, "rigged and ready for fishing" and that's okay with me.

If you're getting 57 mph off of a 115 on a 17 Explorer, then I'd say leave it be. (That speed is GPS right?)

No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.
